In May 2023, we provided a comprehensive SolarEdge setup with battery storage for a residential property in Leicestershire. The system caters to a family of three, with both adults working full-time jobs and an annual electricity consumption of over 4000kWh. It features a 7.07kWp capacity, comprising fourteen 505W Trina Solar panels and a 10kW home battery, providing uninterrupted power supply for the household. Additionally, a hot water solar diverter was integrated to use surplus solar energy for water heating, leading to savings on gas bills.
Despite being divided across two elevations, the SolarEdge optimisers function individually over each panel, ensuring peak efficiency. These optimisers are vital in boosting energy production by monitoring and optimising each panel's performance, maximising the overall system output.
In addition to generating their own solar power, the family benefits from purchasing electricity at lower rates during off-peak periods at night and using stored energy throughout the day, further reducing costs and enhancing savings. This approach not only minimises electricity expenses but also contributes to a shorter payback period.
As electricity costs inevitably rise, consumers are proactively installing their own sources of electricity. This household now benefits from the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff - £0.15 per kWh exported, paid by their distributor Octopus Energy, enhancing their cost savings further through solar energy production.
The effective implementation of this solar system highlights the significant cost savings, environmental advantages, and enhanced efficiency that come with solar installations in the UK. It emphasises the importance of embracing renewable energy to secure both financial stability and environmental responsibility, especially in the face of rising electricity expenses.
