The Warm Homes Loan Scheme: solar and batteries with nothing to pay up front
The government's Warm Homes Loan Scheme launched in October 2026 - no- and low-interest loans for solar panels and battery storage, spread over years instead of paid in one go. The one condition that matters to you: the work has to be done by an MCS-certified installer. That's us. We're MCS-certified (NIC-600346), based in Charnwood, and we cover Leicestershire, South Nottinghamshire and Rutland. Read the GOV.UK factsheet.

Four steps, nothing up front
1. Get a quote from us. We survey your home, design the system and give you a written quote with our MCS number on it - the lenders ask for that, and it has to be dated within six months.
2. Pick a lender. Ten lenders are in the scheme at launch, with more expected. Some only lend through their own partner installers; others will lend against a quote from any MCS-certified installer, so you can shop around.
the lenders in the scheme, on GOV.UK →3. Apply. The lender runs the usual affordability and credit checks. Nothing is paid up front - you repay monthly over the term you agree.
4. We fit it. The install is lodged on the MCS database and you get your MCS certificate and handover pack. Keep the quote, finance agreement and invoice together - the scheme asks you to.

The bits that matter if you're thinking about solar or a battery.
Solar panels
Loans of up to £15,000 for a solar install, at no or low interest, repaid over the term you agree with the lender.
Battery storage
Up to £15,000 for a home battery - with new panels, added to panels you already have, or on its own.
Anywhere in the UK
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - so all of Leicestershire, South Nottinghamshire and Rutland.
MCS-certified installers only
Every install has to be done by an MCS-certified installer with MCS-certified kit, and lodged on the MCS database. That's us: NIC-600346.
We're electricians, not a bank
We don't sell finance, we don't arrange it and we don't earn anything from it. The loan is between you and the lender - read the total amount repayable, the term and any fees before you sign. If a lender ties you to its own installers, you can still get a quote from us to check theirs is a fair one.
The scheme is only a few days old, so some lenders' products are still going live. GOV.UK has the current list, and we'll keep this page up to date as it grows.
Nice things people have said
“Matt attended site, took images of our roof with a drone, showed us a mock-up design minutes later and answered our many questions! We’re now generating and storing our own energy.”
“Our solar/battery project was well designed, and carefully installed with close attention to detail and visual aesthetics.”
Questions people ask us
Do I apply through you or the lender?
Through the lender. We're not a lender and we don't arrange finance - we give you the MCS-certified quote and the install the scheme requires, and the lender does the rest.
Can I use it for a battery on its own?
Yes. Battery storage is a listed technology with its own limit of up to £15,000, whether it goes in with new panels, alongside panels you already have, or on its own.
Does a Sigenergy, Tesla or SolarEdge system qualify?
The scheme cares about the installer and the install: an MCS-certified installer, MCS-certified products and a job lodged on the MCS database. Everything we fit is.
How long does my quote last?
Lenders want an MCS-certified quote dated within six months of your application. If yours is older than that by the time you apply, we'll check nothing has changed and re-issue it.
Is there a grant as well?
For heat pumps there's the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, and the factsheet says the two can be combined. There's no grant for solar or batteries in England, so for those the loan is the help on offer.
Thinking about solar with nothing up front?
Send us a year of bills and a photo of your fuse board. We'll tell you honestly what a system would do for your home, and give you the quote the lenders need.
