ivy out, sun in

A village home in Barsby

Home · 6.2 kWp, 9 kWh of battery, backup and EV charging · November 2025

What was there

A village home in Barsby, a few miles from Melton Mowbray, with two useful roofs: the house, and the outbuilding beside it with ivy growing over the top. The first job was the ivy. The second was the scaffold.

What we did

Ivy cleared and scaffold up, then hooks, rails and 6.2 kWp of premium all-black panels across the two roofs. On the wall outside, an 8 kW Sigenergy Energy Controller with a 9 kWh Sigenergy battery, and a Sigenergy gateway that keeps the whole home running in a power cut. By the garage door, a Sigenergy EV charger. It was switched on on 19 November 2025.

How it's doing

From switch-on on 19 November 2025 to 18 October 2026, its first eleven months, the panels made 5,862 kWh. The home used 3,215 kWh in that time and 65% of it came from the panels or the battery; across 2026 so far it's 71%. From April to September the home ran 84% on its own power, and in April it was 99%. The battery alone covered more than half of everything the house used. The roof made 1.8 times what the house used, and the spare 3,112 kWh went to the grid. We'll update this page after its first full year.
